Commands&mechanics that I want to add to Dota 2

6 min read
Perhaps Dota 2 is not as popular as it used to be: now it is not even among the top three most popular games on Steam. My friends have also abandoned Dota lately, and now they are happy to play in the competitive CS:GO. Possible, it's because of the lack of some interesting mechanics that you can meet playing the other games?

What's inside

22 Bet

Despite the fact that Dota is the first game of its genre, not everything that is now in the game was invented from scratch. From time to time, developers peep into the "notebook" of competitors and borrow interesting abilities, algorithms, and even heroes from there! And we do not speak for everyone, but if something is already done, it must be done to the end. Cyber-sport.io described 5 unusual mechanics from other MOBA games that you just need to add to Dota to diversify the gameplay.

Fast finish co command

I know that it’s not the best command, but let’s be frank, everyone had a situation where they absolutely couldn’t win the game. For example, your team has lost all the lanes, the enemies have a huge gold and artifacts advantage, and you are just climbing Tier 3 high ground or “hide” in the Shadow Amulet near the fountain. In Competitive Dota, professionals can write GG commands, and the match will finish.

The best solution is to let the players vote and give up, like in HON or Hearthstone. Let everyone vote command once per game, and the Throne falls only after five votes. It saves time and nerves. I shouldn’t struggle looking at my 0-10 carry or “mid or feed” pickers.

Leave&forgive

Everybody knows the situation, when you are on the same team with the leaver, then in 90% of matches, you will lose. Usually, my teammates also give up immediately, and everyone loses -30 matchmaking points. But, if my team wouldn’t be responsible for the actions of one very “good” player. To tell the truth, you can't punish everyone, let only the leaver suffer. Valve, please let the leaver’s team not lose MMR in case of defeat, and reward them 2x points in case of victory. With this command, players will save time and not spoil their all-day mood.

Highlights and game records

It would be a great idea to let the players revise the best match moments after the game would be a great idea. It could be a replay of the short “coolest” or maim game moments or just a fun compilation of player moves. For example, the number of kill streaks, double/triple, or any other important moments on the match timeline. I know that we all remember that feeling when you really want to show your friends your volcanic Rampage moment, but Valve removes records over time.

Report patrol

We all know that report options are too vague, and sometimes report comments are probably useless. It’s better to make screenshots for a more accurate description of the complaint, so patrol can ban finer. It seems to me that Valve should offer unique items, not useless points or medals for patrol squads. For example, for a 2-3 correctly reports, the player receives a set or immortal treasure. It was a bad idea to remove the "Game Obstruction" report after the game. You can only grumble during the match.

Replay freeze mechanic

Have you ever wanted to rerun a 5vs5 fight in ranked public or even repeat a key fight of TI Finals? Previously in Dota Allstars, players had the opportunity to reboot into a specific match moment and rerun the battle. Just imagine that you could rerun NaVi-Alliance fast throne push moment or give 5 million Echo Slam like Universe in the match EG-CDEC on International 5. Most likely, Valve removed this feature due to bugs. With such a feature, professional teams would analyze and develop new strategies, while ordinary players would be able to have fun.
