On December 9th 2024, FaZe and FURIA faced off for the very last spot out of the Elimination Stage and straight to the Playoffs at the Perfect World Shanghai Major. FURIA was off to a great start as they comfortably closed out their map pick of Inferno with a 13-6 scoreline. FaZe, however, locked in for the second map, Dust2, equalizing at 13-9 with Håvard "rain" Nygaard leading the charge.

The final map, however, had everyone on the edge of their seats - even though FaZe quickly secured a 12-2 lead, just one round away from realizing their Playoffs dreams, FURIA started clutching up with the likes of Kaike "KSCERATO" Cerato and Felipe "skullz" Medeiros. FaZe, unfortunately, whipped themselves back into shape and closed out Mirage 13-10, qualifying for the playoffs - both teams had much to say after such an intense game.

What did both teams say?

When asked about FURIA’s close comeback at the end, rain said: “I'm just happy we managed to close that out. Whiffed? I don't know what you're talking about. I was just watching the 1-on-4 and I was just watching Finn's POV, I saw the bar, when it reached four I was like, 'Yeah, this is over,' (laughs). But I'm happy we closed it out, thank god none of the other rounds went their way.”

On the other hand, skullz was heartbroken as the team fell just short of a comeback: “I'm feeling really sad, and a little bit upset because I really wanted this playoffs. Everyone in the team is feeling the same because we worked pretty hard for this, and unfortunately it didn't come. But we're moving in the right direction so we should keep our heads up and... just be excited for the next season because we are accomplishing something very special with this lineup.“

FaZe Secures Final Playoffs Spot At Shanghai Major

As FaZe moves into the playoffs, their first match is set to be against Team Vitality, a powerhouse in its own right, regarding which rain said: “It's a hard matchup for us, it's been that for a very long time and I think they are like 20-3 on maps versus us or something. We've got our work cut out for us, and we just gotta do a lot of theory, make sure when match day comes we're prepared and we feel mentally prepared to play them as well”
