How to Change CS2 Bot Difficulty?

CS2 has replaced the way of changing bot difficulty. In CSGO, players could change the bot difficulty directly from the main menu, similar to previous Counter-Strike versions. However, developers wanted something different so they introduced commands so you could change while in-game.

  1. First, enable the developer console through CS2 settings. This enables you to change the game by entering different commands.
  2. Next, start a practice lobby and choose a map.
  3. Open the console with the “~” (default key), and input the code “bot_diffculty 0-5”. These values indicate the degree of difficulty of the bots. You can select any number to set your desired level of difficulty.

Each command represents:

  • Bot_diffculty 0:  Bots are static and act as statues. This is perfect for checking how much damage you deal on body parts with different weapons and utilities.
  • Bot_diffculty 1: This is the lowest difficulty where bots will participate in the gameplay. It's easy to take them down.
  • Bot_diffculty 2: Increases the difficulty by a small margin but not enough to make a huge difference. New players will find this difficulty good for adapting to the game.
  • Bot_diffculty 3: This is where the game starts to feel real. Bots start using utilities, and in-game strategies and focus on objectives.
  • Bot_diffculty 4: If you’re an amateur, this difficulty will test your skills. Bots use flashes, smokes, and positioning to take you down.
  • Bot_diffculty 5: Hardest difficulty in the game. Bots can one-shot you, spare no means to win the match, and prove difficult even for veterans.

If you want to play with bots, then knowing how to set bot difficulty in CS2 is important for you to develop your skills.
