On August 26, 2024, reports surfaced that Nikola ‘NiKo’ Kovač has signed a 3-year contract with the Saudi CS2 organization, Team Falcons. This spells the end of the Bosnian rifler’s career at G2, a team he has played and, found success with, for the past 4 years.

With the contract coming into play from next year, NiKo has the chance to exit G2 with a bang when competing in the last major tournament of the year, the Perfect World Shanghai Major 2024.

G2 Star, NiKo, looking for new opportunities at Team Falcons for 2025

NiKo’s Run at G2 Esports

The Bosnian CS2 superstar made headlines for himself throughout his 4-year career at G2 Esports. He was brought on in 2020 after a disappointing season with FaZe Clan where he couldn’t solidify himself into the IGL (in-game leader) role. After moving to G2 Esports, he was initially paired with Kenny “kennyS” Schrub which was quickly deemed unsuccessful.

However, NiKo’s next pairing with Russian pro-Ilya “mONESY” Osipov proved to set G2 up for success. The iconic duo changed G2’s fortunes for the better as they went on to win multiple trophies, greatly increasing NiKo’s popularity.

During his time at G2, Niko has managed to bag 4 trophies including:

  • BLAST Premier World Final 2022
  • Intel Extreme Masters Katowice 2023
  • Intel Extreme Masters Cologne 2023
  • Intel Extreme Masters Cologne 2024

An even more interesting aspect of NiKo’s career is that his solo performance has shined throughout, regardless of the corporation he was with. Since 2020, he has remained within the top 5 CS2 pro players in the world, an accomplishment held by only a few. This might be one of the reasons why his transfer has been making significant headlines and rocking the CS2 world.

NiKo’s Contract Details with Team Falcons

As we mentioned before, NiKo’s contract with Team Falcons is set to go into effect from January 2025. According to reports, Team Falcons agreed on a $1-1.2 million buyout with G2 Esports for the CS2 pro. It is a 3-year contract with the Saudi CS2 organization, meaning Team Falcons definitely has plans to onboard some big names in the coming season.

With NiKo being a highly sought-after player in the CS2 community, it is no surprise his transfers are some of the most expensive transactions in the pro scene. His MOUZ buyout was valued at $500k while the 2020 shift from FaZe had a $1 million price tag. Let’s see what he can achieve in this new venture.
