The Thunderpick World Championship Details Revealed

D
4 min read
On October 1st, 2024, LVL, teaming up with GRID, shared important details for the upcoming Thunderpick World Championship (first announced back in April), and it’s shaping up to be quite a historical event in the Counter-Strike circuit! It will go down as one of the biggest events in CS2 esports, with a prize pool of one million dollars, higher than anyone has ever seen. The prize pool, coupled with the premium venue of Berlin, CS2 fans are excited to see how things will unfold!

Kelly Sanders, Head of Strategy for Thunderpick, said in this regard: "With the stakes higher than ever thanks to a $1M prize pool, crazy talented teams, and an awesome production team, the Thunderpick World Championship is shaping up to be an event fans will not want to miss, and now with LVL, fans can experience all the action in-person. Due to the size of the venue, we expect tickets to sell out fast, so we encourage fans to secure their seats now for this epic event!"

Tournament details

The tournament will have a steady start, as online GSL Group Stages will be played from October 21st to October 25. Here, all 16 teams (including LEED, Cloud9, Legacy, M80, Imperial, BESTIA, BIG, HEROIC, FNATIC, Falcons, Virtus.Pro and more) will be split into four groups and compete for the top two seeds in their respective group. There will be no lower bracket, so a single loss would mean elimination!

A total of eight teams will qualify from the Group Stages, after which they will face off in best-of-three matchups in the Quarterfinals on October 26th. The Semifinals will take place live at the tournament’s premium venue in Berlin. Finally, on November 3rd, the tournament will come to an end with both the third-place matchup as well as the grand final taking place.

Another interesting detail that was revealed about the tournament was the cast that’d be leading the broadcast, and fans are pleased to see many familiar faces:

The broadcast will be led by a star-studded lineup of talent:

Desk Host: Tres "stunna" Saranthus

Analyst: Janko "YNk" Paunović

Analyst: Sudhen "Bleh" Wahengbam

Caster: Adam "Dinko" Hawthorne

Dota 2 deleted items and effects
I remember times of Garena and Dota Allstars, where you should memorize a bunch of mechanics, tricks, and prohibitions, and every match was an “examine” of your psyche. Dota has been simplified so much that you have enough information from the items and abilities descriptions. Beginners haven't even heard about – “apso” mode or Mini-Pudge, dropped out of the opponent’s Crystal. Let's remember some of the abuses, items, and mechanics permanently removed from the game.
