The 20-year-old joined the team in June 2023 and completed his first full season in 2024. Before that, he spent nearly a year and a half with Sprout, a German esports organization.
“Staehr is one of the best talents we’ve had in Denmark in five years,” Nicolai “device” Reedtz said in 2023, and now Astralis has locked in their rising star just months after extending device's contract through 2026.
Excited about the extension, Staehr shared his commitment to the team’s progress: “We are in a great place as a team, and it has been my clear priority to extend my contract so we can continue the positive progress we’re making”.
Astralis’ Sports Director, Kasper Straube, emphasized Staehr’s importance to the team: “It goes without saying that a player like Staehr is a priority for us, and it was important to reach an agreement to continue working together. That desire was mutual, and with this extension, we now have all players secured for the coming years. This gives us both stability and the continuity we need to keep building on our positive progress”.
Although Astralis hasn’t won a major trophy since 2020, they’ve been knocking on the door with strong performances, including a third-place finish at PGL Cluj-Napoca and semi-final runs at IEM Chengdu and ESL Pro League Season 19 in 2024. Apart from these big accomplishments, they also secured the first place at the RES Showdown Spring 2025 and semi-final runs at BLAST Premier World Final 2024, YaLLa Compass 2024, and CCT Season 1 Global Finals.
“We’re not there yet, and we will definitely lose games along the way,” Straube admitted. “But we have a team with both the quality and the mentality to keep improving and, over time, compete for titles. Today, we’ve taken an important step in that direction”.
With Staehr locked in through 2027, fans certainly expect Astralis to shift their focus to major events like the upcoming BLAST Open Lisbon and PGL Bucharest. Supporters remain eager to see if this stability, coupled with the hard work the team has been putting in, will finally bring home a trophy.
