Copium is a sarcastic phrase used as a joke by "online personalities" on websites like Reddit and Twitch. This colloquial phrase, which combines the terms "cope" and "opium," is used to refer to a fictitious medicine that one would take to forget about a setback, defeat, or disappointment. For instance, if you lose seven consecutive games of Valorant, your viewers could advise you to use copium in large doses.
Copium was associated with the well-known meme character Pepe in order to give it significance and provide a better visual portrayal. Beginning in 2018, Pepe started to show up in pictures where he was wearing a face mask that was feeding him copium from a neighboring tank. Pepe was obviously upset and in need of the copium in these pictures.
It's a popular saying on Twitch and especially so in the esports community that fans of a "poor team" are copium-addled. They must be consuming copium to aid them as they continue to support a losing team steadfastly. Well, get by. The copium meme is one of the most prevalent ones in today's Twitch chats.
In that it's a meme term that shouldn't necessarily be taken literally, hopium is quite similar to copium. Hopium is a phrase used to criticize "false hope" or unrealistic optimism, while copium is used when someone has to "cope" with something. The phrase has some historical roots in the world of cryptocurrencies, where those who hold onto faltering coins are compared to those who take hopium.
In the end, the word "hopium" and its meaning, "copium," are both satirical expressions. They also apply to many other games, thus it's very normal if you see terms like "New World copium" or "Genshin copium" trending. This phrase may be applied in practically any industry because of how flexible it is, including politics, banking, cryptocurrencies, gaming, and more.
Unfortunately, every single individual on Earth may find themselves in a situation when using "copium" is required. Share your experience with Cyber-sport.io. Subscribe and follow the latest eSports news!
