On October 16th, 2024, massive news hit the VALORANT Esports communnity as the coach for NRG’s VALORANT team, Chetan “Chet” Singh was suspended from the scene for six whole months. Although Chet has disagreed with the ruling, he is, nonetheless, looking for coaching opportunities in Counter-Strike, specifically CS2. Chet is a critically acclaimed coach in tactical FPS games, with a solid track record in both VALORANT and CS:GO, meaning any team that signs him as their coach for CS2 can expect to see huge improvements in their roster.

What is Chet’s track record?

Chet has had a stellar track record in both VALORANT and CS:GO. In VALORANT, he has the following accomplishments:

Team OpTic - VCT 2022: Stage 1 Masters - Reykjavik - 1st Place

Team OpTic VALORANT Champions 2022 - 2nd Place

Team NRG - VCT 2023: Americas League - 2nd Place

Team OpTic - VCT 2022: Stage 2 Masters Copenhagen - 3rd Place

Team NRG - VCT 2023: Masters Tokyo - 4th Place

In CS:GO, he has the following accomplishments, arguably much better than his VALORANT career thus far:

Team EG - StarSeries & i-League CS Season 8 - 1st Place

Team EG - ESL One: New York 2019 - 1st Place

Team NRG - Americas Minor Championship - Berlin 2019 - 1st Place

Team NRG - Americas Minor Championship - Katowice 2019 - 1st Place

Team NRG - cs_summit 3 - 1st Place

Team NRG - Intel Extreme Masters XIII - Shanghai - 1st Place

Team NRG - SuperNova Malta 2018 - 2nd Place

Team NRG - StarSeries & i-League CS Season 5 - 2nd Place

Many 3rd - 4th place finishes including one at Berlin Major 2019

Why was Chet suspended?

According to Riot Games, Chet was suspended for broadcasting VoDs that he had access to from when he was NRG’s head coach. Since he broadcasted them after being removed from his head coach position, that would mean it was unauthorized. The exact ruling is as follows:

“On July 31, 2024, Chet publicly broadcasted confidential videos on demand (“VoDs”) while on a live Twitch stream. The VoDs in question are considered confidential and only made available to players and organizations for competitive use and as approved by Riot Games. This content of earlier NRG matches included team communications (e.g., communication between players, coaches and referees during the matches), all of which are considered confidential.

The specific VoDs streamed were stored in a private, password-protected system and have never been shared in their entirety with the public, as they included communications involving players, coaches, and referees during competition. While Riot and the Organizations may use clips from prior matches, all public usage must be reviewed and approved to ensure that no sensitive information or other confidential elements are inadvertently broadcasted. Additionally, the broadcast of the VoDs occurred close in time to the competitive season when it is reasonable to presume the information held in a secure system would be deemed confidential without prior authorization.

Esports Professionals involved in Riot-sanctioned leagues are required to abide by the regulations set out in the Code of Conduct. Riot Games expects all Esports Professionals to handle confidential information appropriately. Failing to preserve confidential, non-public information can seriously impact the competitive ecosystem, teams, and players. Individuals in positions of authority within an organization are held to a higher standard of conduct. It is the responsibility of owners, coaches, and managers to set an example for others to maintain a positive esports ecosystem.

Due to the nature of the above described violations, Chet is suspended effective immediately and continuing through the end of Masters Bangkok [March 3, 2025].“

How has Chet responded?

Chet has made two responses to his six-month suspension from competitive VALORANT. First, his immediate response came on X (formerly Twitter) in retaliation to the suspension on the same day: “I disagree with their ruling as no damages were done to either party but I can no longer compete until March so until then I will be streaming in the meantime.”

One day later, it appears that Chet thought things through and decided to dip his toes in the competitive CS2 scene, at least during the six-month suspension: “With recent news I'm going to be exploring my options in CS2, if any teams are interested next year after the major DMs are open. Still open to VAL opportunities after my suspension - will be streaming till then”

In other words, Chet will be weighing his options for next year when it comes to switching to CS2 or staying with VALORANT - all depending on the kind of opportunities he gets.
