If we describe the zombie Escape mode in a nutshell, it would sound like this: there is a CT side - the survivors who must reach a safe point, usually a shelter, and there is a T-side - the zombies that are trying to prevent them in every way. The purpose of the survivors is to escape from the infected zone, and the task of zombies - kill all the survivors. Seems easy. Team Cyber-sport.io prepared a brief overview of this mode. Let's go!
Perhaps the best thing to give the player Zombie Escape is not a thrilling mode or unique maps. It’s teamwork. It would seem that the survivors need to escape, and the zombies are preventing them from doing, so that is not difficult. But to win for either side team need to work together. Here, as in a classic CS, you get at least 40 frags, but if you do not work for the team, you inevitably lose.
Zombie Escape "veterans" have long since learned to give each other roles. For example, in every group, there is a team leader aka guider. Usually, this is the most experienced player who will explain to the rest of the group what they have to do. Also, you cannot play without a cover player. It is a challenging role, which also goes to the most experienced players. The task of the cover is to be at the end of his team and run after it only at the last moment, shooting as many zombies as possible on the way closest to the CT.
The problem is that all good Escape maps are designed so that if the CT players won't work together and will just run away to save their skin, they will fail. Success can only be achieved by working as a team, which sometimes means risking your own life to help others.
It's a crucial aspect of the world of Zombie Escape, and good mapmakers are always respected among players. The first maps, such as Macreactor or Jurassic Park, were simple corridors with zombies. Today, they look outdated and boring. However, it was an exciting innovation, so people still actively played the mode. The first breakthrough map was Final Fantasy 6.
However, these maps still have innovations that players like. Lasers that dealt damage to everyone caught by them. Passing the laser without receiving damage was a measure of real skill. Soon this chip began to appear in other maps, and the mapmakers began to work in the Final Fantasy style. In addition to the lasers, mapmaker introduced a zombie escape, which later became a classic, namely the laser boss, which awaited players at the end of the map. Passing the map with the boss alone is a task not for everyone. On some popular servers is still no single player with such an achievement.
One of the main charms of Zombie Escape is the variety of modes that includes many exciting features that perfectly lend to customization. Its creators began working on the project a few days after the release of Counter-Ctrike Source. Most of the Zombie Escape servers then worked on their mode, and the differences were only in the maps.
It's hard to say why the Zombie Escape mode is having problems at the current moment Some players are still online, and the community is as friendly as before, but activity from the mapmakers has decreased, and the influx of new players has become noticeably smaller. Most likely, the problem is simply the timing. The mode is more than 10 years old, and people just played it up for this period.
An example from another area looks at Warcraft. It is still playable in 2022; the community servers are still full, but it was popular a long time ago. The same thing happens in CS:GO, for example, with the Mirage map, which is still ranked number one on Faceit, but whose popularity among pro players has dropped noticeably. In the case of Zombie Escape, the situation is truly unique.
We are confident that the majority of those reading this article have never tried to play there. However, Zombie Escape can give you dozens or even hundreds of hours of unique fun on modern maps, and the fact that it has a lot of experienced players is only good for people who are just starting to play CS. An experienced player who wants to win and is on the same team as you will gladly tell you what to do. That's all for now.
